Huawei Nexus 6P

Huawei Nexus 6P has absolutely no similarities compared to smaller Nexus 5X (09A3D7DD4) from LG, or any older Nexus models. Real refresh comes with metal uni-body case, and not plastic as we’re used to with Nexus. Next to all of his pros, there are also some cons such as too much gauges attached on it which makes it, practically, impossible to use with one hand.

Front side of Nexus 6P is covered with flat glass surface. Next to huge 5.7 inch screen, it also has two holders for pretty solid stereo loudspeakers. Next to upper loudspeaker is a front selfie camera with practically invisible sensors, plus a LED notification light which must be enabled in settings.

Left side contains a SIM card holder, while on the right we can find Power button and volume control buttons. They both give you that ‘clicky’ feeling, and the power button has rough texture for easier location. Bottom side has main microphone hole and USB C connector for sync and charging. Top side of the phone has 3.5mm headphone jack.

Display

Nexus 6P comes with larger 5.7-inch AMOLED display (AFB65C49B) in Quad HD resolution, 518 pixels per inch and Gorilla Glass 4 protection which is available at GPC. Sharpness, live colors, excellent readability under specific edge and good feeling under your fingers are what makes this phone so great. It’s a real pleasure to watch it, surf the Internet, play the games and enjoy the multimedia…until you go outside on the sun. In such conditions, as far as we noticed, Nexus 6P should’ve been more bright and readable.

What’s also cool is its support for ambient display power saving monochromatic time display as well as notifications on black display which powers on when you face it to yourself. Comparing to Samsung’s always on screen on S7, Nexus 6P shows all notifications with possibility to click on them.

Camera

On its back Nexus 6P has new 12.3 MP camera with laser autofocus and dual LED flashlight. Next to full HD it also records in 4K resolution, plus Slow Motion and Time Lapse videos. Optical stabilization is unfortunately missing, and if it wasn’t , this would easily be compared with top notch camera of Galaxy S7 (or well, Google Pixel by now). Nonetheless, Huawei 6P brings a revolution between Nexus models when it comes to camera. Front camera is 8 MP that records 1080p videos.

Camera app is redesigned and it works better & faster than ever before, tho it still lacks in features. Right side of search has big snap button, switch-to-front-camera button and Gallery shortcut. Top side has buttons for HDR control, flash and timer, while the left corner contains settings button where you can choose between Panorama, Photo-sphere, sharpened object and main settings where you can choose and modify size and quality of pictures/videos. You can switch between photo and video recording by swiping horizontally.

Software

Nexus 6P uses pure, unmodified and basic Android Marshmallow, as expected from users.

Nexus 6P utilizes basic Google Launcher, and start screen pages can be appended with maps, shortcuts and widgets. Bottom contains the dock with four desired shortcuts and central fifth shortcut for app screen. Even lower you can find navigation bar which does not allow adjustments. Last left side page is reserved for Google Now that informs you about what he thinks you need. Apps are now listed vertically, and not horizontally as usual.

Our thought

If Androis turns you on and you’re not afraid of high quality smartphones, then you must try Nexus 6P. Next to it utilizing clean Android and fresh OS, Nexus 6P this years offers a great display, impressive design and quality of the same, front stereo loudspeakers, as well as great camera – which is not something we’re used to with Nexus family. Perhaps not as cheap as it’s good, 6P offers very much nonetheless.
